Greg Stewart

Greg Stewart with Gold Medal

Greg Stewart is a two-time Paralympian, competing in the F46 Shot Put at both the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games and the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games. He won a gold medal in both Paris and Tokyo and was born missing his left arm below the elbow. In addition to his success in Paralympic athletics, Greg is a versatile athlete who has played able-bodied basketball for the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) Men’s Basketball team in Kamloops, BC, and competed in volleyball for Canada’s Men’s National standing and seated disabled volleyball teams. With over 20 years of national and international competition experience, Greg continues to represent Canada in Para athletics while balancing his life with his partner, family, and friends.

Mental Health

Greg began his journey in mental health in 2011, a time when many athletes face the challenge of losing their identity after college. For many, their sense of self is closely tied to their sport, and when that chapter ends, they can feel lost and purposeless. After his final years playing basketball at Thompson Rivers University (TRU), Greg experienced significant uncertainty about who he was. He struggled to complete his degree and found himself in and out of jobs, unable to discover his purpose.

In 2014, Greg participated in a six-month Personal Empowerment Training program at the Breath Integration, Coaching and Training Centre. There, he attended group therapy sessions three times a week, learning to understand his thoughts, feelings, and personal truths. He identified his five main emotions (Fear, Guilt, Anger, Sadness & Love/Joy), explored how they manifest in the body, and gained tools to navigate them. This marked the beginning of his mindfulness practice.

After completing the training, Greg spent the next three to four years deepening his understanding of his emotions and applying this knowledge to his life. In 2018, he embarked on an eight-month Breath Practitioner training program. Now graduated, he is equipped to support clients in connecting with their feelings and creating more fulfilling lives. He has been practicing since then.

Greg Stewart School Talk

School Presentation

Greg speaks to schools about the values of ownership, trust, and integrity. He believes that when these three principles are aligned, individuals can bring more love and happiness into their lives. School can be a challenging environment; students often feel scared, vulnerable, and are navigating a significant period of growth. They face constant judgment and comparison.

Greg poses thought-provoking questions: What if students could learn to take ownership of their lives earlier? What if they could truly understand their feelings? How could trusting their actions impact their well-being? What does it mean to live with integrity?

He not only asks these questions but also engages with students through interactive discussions. Greg provides relatable, in-person examples and empowers them to determine their own outcomes.

Corporate Talks and Workshops

Ownership, trust, and integrity are values many people recognize but often overlook. How frequently do we practice them? How often do we apply these principles in our work and daily lives? Imagine how much better our home and work environments could be if we embraced these values consistently.

Greg highlights the significance of these principles for both employers and employees. He explores how vulnerability can strengthen connections with oneself and others. By fostering a deeper understanding of their feelings and the impact they have on their surroundings, both employers and employees can create a more dynamic, productive, and enjoyable work environment.
